As children, my brother and I spent a lot of time following my father around cross country courses with hammers, staples, rope and flags in hand. My father designed and built a variety of courses and organized a number of 3 day events. When we lived in South Wales this 3 day event at Penrice on The Gower Peninsular (don’t try and get a large horse lorry there now!) became an international affair and we were lucky enough to have Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips as competitors. I have a lovely memory of meeting Princess Anne, I was about 8, and offering to walk her horse around for her. Photographic evidence exists!
